Free Will and The Melting Point

The power and the challenge of Free Will is often what defines us as human beings - I also like your commentary on the need for approval and the clash between enjoyment and sacrifice

**** AMERICAN MAD MAN CHAIN SAW DISEASE

The American elm, far and away our most popular and important shade tree, is facing its most threatening enemy, American Mad Man Chain Saw Disease. A large part of them seem to be doomed unless up-to-date methods of control of these mad men with chain saws are used. In New England the appearance of whole towns has been changed by the loss of gigantic elms along entire streets. This same havoc is being repeated in most eastern states and, now, as far west as Missouri. There were rumors that there something wrong with the trees themselves, however most Elms are gone now and dead trees tell no tales.

Tweaking the Reality Code: The Internet

I began to think this morning about all the ideas that are adding up in my mind about the internet.

What the heck is that thing? Remember the Saturday night live skit, "What the hell is that thing?" I do. That's how people are with the Internet, we just don't really know what it is and what it is for. We imagine that it is like television but really - it isn't exactly like television, all though it can be (that is when it is at its lowest point). The thing about it is, it can be - really anything we want it to be. As technology advances as a medium, it can't help but become magical. Asking us the question, technology is like a genie, "What do you want?" it asks us, and we conceive of an idea and it says, "At your service." What ever you conceive of is possible in cyber space.

As a web designer I realize all the time that everything is really virtual, not just buttons that pretend to push in and come back out, but shadows that tailor substance are mimics of mental qualities. The first thing that astounded me when I began to create web sites and get around on the 'net' was that really EVERYTHING is virtual, just like the Buddhist says, it is illusory, or hallucinatory, or imaginary or subjective...a phantasmagoria of ideas.

If we will it we will, of course, be able to diagnose and treat illnesses on the net and it will become our best doctors, and at least it will be objective, which is better than what we have now, but I think that the idea of "objective" can linger in the collective consciousness like poisonous "second hand smoke".

When it comes to disease there is no objectivity, it is a subjective realm. However, if you program machines to take your blood pressure,… give it a strand of your hair (DNA) it can tell you what minerals you are lacking and what your DNA is doing differently than it may have done 2 years ago, then we really are getting somewhere. But we are not getting anywhere data wise, that a medical Intuitive, Shaman or Savant can't get to. Yet, we are quickly (society) is making short use of the idea of the healer, and we still locked into a paradigm where we respect the machine the mechanical and the chemical make up of things and ideas, more than the Intuitive technology of the healer (or the thinking that creates the chemistry).

Technology is the logical side of the human endeavor, and it dominates anything intuitive because it can and it must. Depending on how you interpret what is going on, I think that magic is alive in every circumstance, in every medium, even in the clouds in your coffee when you add cream. I don't let technology get away with anything. It is alive also, and as such, it can't escape being a tool of the human, but humans can escape becoming its tool. If we realize what is going on we can be programmers and not become the program.

Message Density: Article by LeNor Barry

CHRONIC DEPRESSION IS a bad psychic habit that shows like a Freudian slip through the translucent dresses of psychiatric jargon. If you have concluded that this dirty lingerie is a chemical imbalance, a genetic propensity, a result of events from your past or present circumstances, you will probably not consult Wonder to find new perspectives from which to view it, because conclusion and wonder don’t get along. more...

A Petrifying of Reiterations: Old Age

Old age? I am living through all manifestations of evolution as the human fetus testifies to, obviously I am ancient, a product of Intelligence. I have had much experience. I will never run down, because I am not wound-up, but fed by underground springs . There is a quality of youth that Knows the underground spring, old age is a forgetting, a petrifying of reiterations. Trees use the undergound spring, they harden ideas for growth and stability. The fluid ground of the psyche must process information differently or become arthritic.

The second law of thermodynamics when applied to a human life is a false premonition. Like a bad dream, it could come true, but free will can derail it. It is the obtuse mind subject to inert non-imagination who apples the second law of thermodynamics to itself, it is a grotesque perversion.

Simon W. Saunders said in his review of "TIME AND CHANCE" by David Z. Albert, "The foundations of thermodynamics is a topic that has accumulated a good deal of dead wood; this is a fire that will burn and burn." David Z Albert is featured in the movie "WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW?" and is Professor and Director of Philosophical Foundations of Physics, Columbia University.

The human ear that stretches in an outer direction to listen for an explanation of reality is misguided because it is not heliotropic to the Self. This must be the first law of non-dynamic-thermo-statics. There is no such system as a closed system in the "natural world".

I say hell is where you find it. If you are looking for it, I have the directions: Entropy: The tendency for all matter and energy in the universe to evolve toward a state of inert uniformity. This "law" is a bad seed that cannot grow.

The leaves of the plant listen spellbound to the Sun. The underground spring that resides inside of a human's being will inform the mind of Reality. There is an exchange we call communication. If you could see communication you would see a movement of substances. When true communication occurs new growth is created, its called Art. To drink deeply of the underground spring that perpetually nourishes and replenishes is an engagement worthy of living.

High Wire Acts

Poetry is the birthplace of language, but like a human is not evolving toward the same womb that gave him/her birth, language is not evolving toward a poetic place. A poem is not Poetry! Poetry is a place, a place where the Gods hang out. Where the Heros play. It is the feat of the visionary to grasp that the Gods do take your desires sincerely. It is the most daring of imaginal acrobatics to accept this gift.

You may surmise that struggle makes life meaningless, yet a life without struggle could be hell. Seeing through the Veil is careful work, it is precarious. Your awareness may push you over the edge. I find consolation in the flat earth theory, as treacherous as it may be, at least there is an entertaining mythology. But if – in lifting the Veil, you find your self spying from the eye of the Hubble Telescope into the library of an existentialist and get entrapped in that net, it may be impossible to coax you out.

Ideas will be pulled out, screaming, bloody, unwilling and naked. The tremendous force it takes to excavate them is equal to the force that painfully creates them. The Earth and I have the same lament: “Well so what if they have cut out my womb and infected my eye, I can “beget in the spiritual realms” and use my other eye” .

I don’t appear damaged this way in public, but I am limping home from the war just like all the other soldiers, dazed from a lifetime of combat. What direction? I only know that I am hungry tired and cold. Who could paint such a disaster, I don’t agree with any of this but I can’t be afraid of the world just because it’s on fire , I have had too much time on my hands ever since the "big bang". I want to file a complaint but I don’t know where the concierge is exactly located. In the seat of the mind , I gather , and not the chemistry of the brain.

Imagination
Better fascinated than captured

It seems that a certain amount of what ever we experience is lost in translation of what ever language we are dependant upon. The need to translate experience is a strong urge in most.

There is a danger of being locked up with-in the treasure chest others bring back from their inner explorations. It is necessary to develop the Imagination like the legs of a new colt before endeavoring to read great works or it can grow weaker with every book read. People can be assimilated actually and become mere quote-ers and translators of their peers. Better to remember what others have said about reality, they suppose than being thought of as 'uneducated'. But merely possessing a good memory and the ability to comprehend what others have said is not intelligence, nor is the ability to debate an indication of intelligence.

The seemingly harmless ego trip of reading everything in sight to 'educate' ones self, can develop, people who read too much have a difficult time identifying their own point of view and when they do have original thought it is quickly corralled up with-in the perimeters of the thought systems of authors who have captured their imagination.

"Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel". ~ Socrates

Attention Deficit!
What makes a Speaker Great...

When you are part of a captive audience such as a school room, an active imagination will latch on to any substance it can get as fuel for fantasy, although the quality of fantasy may be dependent on the inventiveness of the teacher.

I have listened to recordings of speakers that seemed absolutely magical (for instance, Terence McKenna) because every time I listened to the recording there seemed to be new information I hadn't heard before. I really had to wonder what was going on. The information the speaker had to impart was heavily loaded with substance, not diluted by repetition and over explanation. My imagination was knocked out of the ball park playing with the information, in the mean time more non diluted thought was pouring out. So by the time my mind returned from the home run for the the next thought, there was plenty of information under the bridge.

People are now quick to pronounce a diagnosis of attention deficit disorder, it is the imagination that is the target and the culprit. Paying strict attention to what is being said precludes the possibility of fantasy with-in the talk being given. If we find we have an attention deficit, the reason for it could fall on either side of the question, the speaker is great, or the information is boring to us, but where is the disorder?
